Honors Chemistry

Semester:
Fall and Spring

Prerequisite: Algebra 1 or Concurrent Enrollment and Biology (10th-12th Grade)

Description: Honors chemistry prepares students for a college-level chemistry sequence by introducing students to the basic concepts of chemistry as well as providing students with an introduction to topics that will provide foundational knowledge for success at a collegiate level. Students will gain an understanding of concepts through inquiry-based investigations as they explore: states and origin of matter, the periodic table of elements, chemical bonding, intermolecular forces, VSEPR theory, nuclear chemistry, moles and stoichiometry, chemical reactions, acids and bases, gas laws, equilibrium, thermodynamics, and reaction rates. This course is designed to prepare students for AP chemistry or any college-level chemistry course. This course is also recommended for students who want a fast-paced, more challenging chemistry course.
