Advanced Placement
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level courses offered by Boone High School. Students may take the corresponding national AP exam in early May. Based on the national AP exam score and the college/university’s policies, students may be eligible for college credit or advanced standing. Registration and a fee for the national exam is due in early November. Boone High School offers two AP courses on the BHS campus as well as fourteen on-line courses, each preparing students for the optional national AP exam at the completion of the course.
Advanced Placement courses offered in person at Boone High School:

Online AP Courses:
Boone High School participates in The Iowa Online AP® Academy (IOAPA), which provides online advanced courses through Edmentum/APEX for Iowa students who do not have access to these courses in their schools. Most courses have an online instructor who is an expert in the subject area. Instructors also give students feedback on assignments and are available for questions and extra help.
Students must register with the Excel teacher at BHS by mid-August for 2-semester courses and mid-December for 1-semester courses. Students must dedicate one class period in their schedule for each online AP course and will be assigned to the BHS Excel teacher. Textbooks and lab materials are provided by BHS.
In order for high school students to be successful in IOAPA courses, they should be able to handle the academic rigor of a college-level course, and have the self-discipline and motivation necessary for online learning. Additionally, students should not be over-committed in their curricular and/or extracurricular activities. Some courses require prerequisites that are listed in the Course Catalog and each course’s associated link.
If students drop after the first two weeks of the course or fail the course, the drop fee is $350 for the student.
