DMACC Principles of Engineering

Semester:
Fall and Spring

Prerequisites: DMACC Intro to Engineering Design. Completion of Algebra I and concurrent enrollment in Geometry or teacher approval.

Considerations: Students will need to purchase an Engineering Notebook (Composition – Quad Ruled), and a 1 1/5” 3-Ring Binder. Binder Slip Covers for paper is optional.

Course Description: Principles of Engineering is third in a three-course pre-engineering program through Project Lead the Way. POE is a high-school level survey course in engineering. The course exposes students to many of the major concepts they will encounter in a post secondary engineering courses. Students will have the opportunity to investigate engineering and high tech careers. Engineering areas such as coding, design, hydraulics, pneumatics, gearing systems, pulleys and structural supporting such as bridge building units and many others are modeled in a shop setting to resemble real world applications. POE helps students learn how engineers and technicians use math, science and technology in an engineering problem-solving process to benefit people. Units of study include energy and power, materials and structures, control systems, statistics and kinematics. Successful completion and high test results can result in additional credit from the University of Iowa.

*This course is taught at BHS by a BHS instructor.
