DMACC Intro to Engineering Design

Semester:
Fall and Spring

Prerequisite: Completion or concurrent enrollment in Algebra I.

Considerations: Students interested in drafting or engineering pathways. Students will need to purchase an Engineering Notebook (Composition – Quad Ruled), and a 1 1/5” 3-Ring Binder. Binder Slip Covers for paper is optional.

Course Description: Introduction to engineering design is the first of a three-course pre-engineering program through Project Lead the Way. This course will offer a foundational background for students interested in design and/or engineering. The main focus is to expose students to the engineering design process, professional communication, design ethics, and technical documentation through activity, project, and problem based learning. Students will apply these skills to solve engineering design problems such as redesigning and building a puzzle cube. Students will use industry standard 3D solid modeling software to facilitate the design and documentation of designs. No previous engineering knowledge is assumed, but students should be concurrently enrolled in college prep math and science courses. Successful completion and high test results can result in additional credit from the University of Iowa.

*This course is taught at BHS by a BHS instructor.
