Fall Semester of Health Occupations: 

Prerequisite:  Must be a junior or senior.  

The following courses are taken together during periods 7 and 8 so will meet every day at BHS with a BHS instructor:

DMACCHSC 101 Emergency Care

Course Description: Learn to perform care for medical emergencies: fractures, burns, resuscitation, basic CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, American Heart Level II Standards) Certification.

DMACCHSC 105 Intro to Health Occupations

Course Description: This course introduces both the variety and requirements for healthcare careers. Basic core knowledge and professional expectations common to all health careers are explored. Workplace safety and an overview of the health system and current trends are also covered.

DMACCHSC 109 Explore Health Careers/Building Team

Course Description: Student will discover the main options available, including roles and responsibilities, in health career options. This course is designed to provide the student with the information necessary to make their health career choice.

DMACCHSC 114 Medical Terminology

Course Description: A comprehensive study of medical terminology as the language of medicine. Analyzes words by dividing them into component parts. Relates the medical terms to the structure and functional pathology of diseases and current medical procedures. Emphasizes word usage, abbreviations, pronunciation, and spelling. Students will examine the roles of word parts used in forming medical terms, discuss the use of anatomic reference, examine the major functions and structures of body systems, characterize medical terms and abbreviations related to the pathology and the diagnostic and treatment procedures, examine radiography terms, examine pharmacology terms, and describe common types of complementary and alternative therapies.

*Based upon student interest, this class may require an application/interview process.

Spring Semester of Health Occupations:

DMACCHSC114 Medical Terminology will be offered as a full semester course for one period. Students in grades 10-12 are eligible.

DMACCHSC105 Intro to Health Careers and DMACCHSC109 Explore Health Careers/Building Team will be taken together during one period. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible.
