Math

Priority Math

Grades: 9th / 10th / 11th / 12th

Course Description: This course is for students who are significantly unique from their peers in the area of math.  This course will two blocks. This class will rotate between Algebra and Geometry each year. Students will not request this course; they will be assigned.

Statistics

Prerequisite: Algebra II

Course Description: Statistics is an introductory college-level statistics course that introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students cultivate their understanding of statistics using technology, investigations, problem-solving, and writing as they explore concepts like variation and distribution; patterns and uncertainty; and data-based predictions, decisions, and conclusions.  Algebra 2 is a prerequisite.

Money Management and Financial Responsibility

Prerequisite: Algebra I

11th and 12th grade

Course Description: This one-semester course will reinforce general mathematics topics (such as arithmetic using rational numbers, measurement, ratio and proportion, and basic statistics) and apply these skills to consumer problems and situations like budgeting, taxation, credit, banking services, insurance, buying and selling products and services, home and/or car ownership and rental, managing personal income, and investment.  Must have passed Algebra 1 to take this course.

Pre Calculus I

Prerequisite: Algebra II

Course Description: This is a one-semester course that includes the topics of precalculus to prepare for calculus.  Students who take this class and feel confident enough will be ready to take calculus next semester. Topics include functions and their graphs, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, limits, matrices, and analytic trig topics.  Students should have scored an average of 2.5 on algebra 2 standards.

Algebra II

Prerequisite: Algebra I and Geometry

Course Description: Credit may be earned on a semester basis. Two semesters of credit are necessary for admission to many colleges. Topics covered are sequences & functions, polynomials and rational functions, complex numbers & rational exponents, exponential functions & equations, transformations of functions, Trigonometry, and statistical inferences. Algebra II is the third course in the college pathway and is a prerequisite for Pre-Calculus and Probability & Statistics.

Geometry

Prerequisite: Algebra I

Course Description: Geometry courses, emphasizing an abstract, formal approach to the study of geometry, typically include topics such as properties of plane and solid figures; deductive methods of reasoning and use of logic; geometry as an axiomatic system including the study of postulates, theorems, and formal proofs; concepts of congruence, similarity, parallelism, perpendicularity, and proportion; and rules of angle measurement in triangles.
